KG Hospital has been making relentless efforts for improving the quality of healthcare services it renders at all levels.
In pursuit of this, KG Hospital Chairman Dr G.Bakthavathsalam organized a series of lectures on the adoption of “5s” methodology for the benefit of the employees, managers, paramedical staff and doctors at the Hospital Auditorium on Tuesday, 5th July 2017.
It is intended to standardize and encourage innovation in medical care delivery system for the benefit of the patients. Mr L.Gopalan from Chennai was the resource person who described the “5s” concept and how it could be adopted.
By the way, the National Accreditation Board for Hospitals and Healthcare Providers (NABH) has made it mandatory that the hospitals seeking its accreditation should be “5s” compliant. This concept will ensure orderliness, cleanliness, standardization and sustenance of the hospital.
What is “5s”?
It is a Japanese formula with the words “Sein (sort), Seriton (set in order), Seiso (shine), Seiketsu (standardize) and Shitsuke (sustain). It is being followed by several organizations, industries and hospitals across the world.
It helps remove the three setbacks, ie., “Muda (waste), Muri (excess strain) and Mura (inconsistency) that stand in the way of the growth of the hospital. Besides inculcating discipline, the “5s” concept is meant to create the right atmosphere for the enhancement of efficiency of the staff and the effectiveness of their works.
Though, the staffs are duty-bound to strictly follow the rules and regulations of the organization, there is ample room for exhibiting their creative skills. Therefore, it is expected of the staff that besides falling in line with the policy decision of the hospital administration they should also work in sync with its aims and objectives.
They should also imbibe the “5s” ideology till it becomes a habit. At the same time, they could have the leeway to put forth any novel ideals for the improvement of healthcare services.
The Standard Operating Procedure should be suitably modified in consonance with the changing requirements of the healthcare sector. All these attempts are being made to prove that our hospital is the best in terms of rendering the healthcare services.
