On the direction of our Chairman Dr G.Bakthavathsalam, the Regional Blood Bank of KG Hospital conducted a blood donation camp at KG College of Arts and Science, Saravanampatti, Coimbatore, recently.
The blood donation camp received an overwhelming response from the college students. On the occasion, a total of 186 students volunteered to donate blood.
Prior to collection of blood, the medical team led by Dr Viveka Priyadarshini, Transfusion Specialist, KG Hospital, conducted medical examination, hemoglobin check and blood pressure monitoring to ensure that the donors are in good health.
According to Dr Viveka Priyadarshini, the donated blood is always subjected to various tests such as HIV-1, HIV-2, Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C and Venereal Disease Research Laboratory (VDRL) test to ensure that safe blood is given to patients.
The blood thus collected is separated into 4 different components such as packed red blood cells, platelets, fresh frozen plasma and cryoprecipitate. Based on the need the required components can be given to patients, thereby saving four lives.
Through this act of kindness, the college students are saving the lives of those whom they do not know at all. “The KG Hospital medical team takes this opportunity to thank the Principal, staff and donors of KG College of Arts and Science for their noble gesture of donating blood,” Dr Viveka Priyadarshini.
