As many as 100 students from Tamil Institute of Science and Management, Vilathikulam, Thoothukudi, accompanied by Principal Alagu Manikandan, came on an “Industrial visit” to KG Hospital on August 30, 2017.
Our Chairman Dr G.Bakthavathsalam had made necessary arrangements for giving them an insight into the functioning of our multispecialty hospital.
Mr R.Prabu Kumar, Chief Executive Officer (Human Resource Development) and Mr V.Mohan Gandhi, Chief Executive Officer (Marketing) and Chief Physiotherapist, through lucid lectures and video presentations, enlightened the college students on the quality healthcare being provided by KG Hospital to patients.
The first video gave graphic details on how our Chairman through his relentless efforts had developed the hospital to international standards. On his father Govindasamy Naidu’s advice Dr Bakthavathsalam gave up the lucrative medical practice in the US and returned to India to serve the local community.
The second video gave elaborate details on the KG Hospital’s endeavour to mitigate the sufferings of the people in the disaster-struck areas and to reach timely medical aid to the victims.
The third video titled “Oru nodi pothum” (Just one second is enough) went into the details of how untutored handling of medical wastes would cause infection and how it could be prevented.
The fourth video highlighted how the quick response team of the hospital, under the “Code Blue” procedure, responds to any emergency situation.
The fifth video taught the students on how to maintain hand hygiene and protect them from acquiring unwanted infections. The students were also told about the Colour coding being adopted by our hospital for segregation of medical wastes and their safe handling and disposal.
Mr Mohan Gandhi explained the usage of CT Scan and MRI Scan, and with the involvement of students demonstrated how to do “Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)” to revive the persons who might collapse suddenly.
After the lecture session, the students were taken around the hospital to get a glimpse of the state-of-the-art equipment and the laboratories. They were also told about the mock drills periodically being organized by our hospital to keep doctors, nurses and the supporting team alert and ready to deal with any medical exigencies.
The Principal appreciated Dr Bakthavathsalam for his passion to deliver quality healthcare to the ailing patients and equip the hospital with modern equipment. “It is for the first time that we (students and the faculty) have such an exposure to a well organized medical set-up. I am astonished over the manner in which KG Hospital keeps the interest of patients foremost in its mind. The videos are informative and educative and the visit is very valuable and very useful to our students,” the Principal added.
