KG Hospital Chairman Dr G.Bakthavathsalam organized the “World Heart Day” celebrations in a fitting manner in the hospital premises on Friday. Every year World Heart Day is celebrated on September 29, and this year’s theme is “Share the Power.”
Health of the heart is the subject close to Dr Bakthavathsalam’s heart. It has become obvious from the book “Healthy Heart for Life!” authored by him. He has distributed over 5 lakh copies of the book, in five languages, to various sections of the society.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Bakthavathsalam said, “Heart is the heart of health, and therefore, we should take all the care to keep it ticking. We should avoid intoxicating substances, alcohol, non-vegetarian that would accumulate bad cholesterol.”
“Those having diabetes running in the family and obese people should also pay special attention to the heart. It is advisable for those above 30 years to do health checkup every year to keep the heart in good shape,” he said.
Dr Bakthavathsalam emphasized the point that to keep a healthy heart, we have to do physical exercises regularly, say for one hour every day. We must avoid packaged food and bottled drinks.
