KG Hospital Chairman Dr G.Bakthavathsalam participated in the Coimbatore Marathon held on October 1, 2017 and won the medal in the 5 km-long run. Additional Director General of Police Mr C.Sylendra Babu also bagged a medal in this event.
The marathon got an overwhelming response from people in all age groups and from various walks of life.
A total number of 13,800 participants took part in the marathon conducted under three categories, which included 21.1 km – 2,000 participants, 10 km – 4,700 participants and 5 km – 7,100 participants.
The marathon was sponsored by Coimbatore Cancer Foundation, Coimbatore Runners and Show Space (an event management company) with the laudable objectives of creating awareness about cancer among the people, helping them to adopt right lifestyle to lead a healthy life and supporting the cancer patients belonging to economically weaker sections of the society to get quality healthcare.
Dr Bakthavathsalam said that marathon happened to be the best way of spreading awareness about any worthy cause. The participants were enthusiastic because they felt that they were running for a purpose.
“The marathon not only improves one’s health but also fosters comraderie among the participants. A 48-year-old participant who got a massive heart attack while running was given timely Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation in KG Hospital and subsequently, primary angioplasty and stenting was done. His life was saved by our cardiologists Dr Y.Y.Rao and Dr C.Balasubramanian,” our Chairman said.
