A Lamp Lighting Ceremony was held in KG College of Nursing in Coimbatore to initiate the freshers into the Diploma and B.Sc Nursing Courses on March 26, 2018.
As many as 150 candidates took part in the ceremony, presided over by KG Hospital Chairman Dr G.Bakthavathsalam. The Nightingale Oath was also administered to them.
Vice-Chancellor of Avinashilingam Institute for Home Science and Higher Education for Women Dr Mrs Premavathy Vijayan, in her Chief Guest address said that it was very inspiring to watch the Lamp Lighting Ceremony in which the budding nurses were participating.
The Vice-Chancellor further said that in her university, “such a ceremony is being organized when the students are leaving the institution after completion of their courses. In this regard, KG College of Nursing has set a trend by organizing the ceremony at the beginning of the courses, which is worth emulating.”
Dr Premavathy Vijayan noted that when there was a craze for engineering and other professional courses, these youngsters had taken the appreciable decision of taking to the noble profession of nursing.
Citing an instance, the Vice-Chancellor said that when her relative got admitted to a hospital she got to know the selfless services rendered by nurses. She deemed it a privilege to be invited to participate in the Lamp Lighting Ceremony of KG College of Nursing.
Dr Bakthavathsalam in his speech said that while the doctors would hardly spend half-an-hour with a patient, it would be left to the nurses to take care of the patient until he/she recovers; which might take days, weeks or even months.
He said, “I know all the nurses in KG Hospital by name, and also their educational and family background. Nurses should work diligently as the outcome of medical treatment depends to a great extent upon their service.”
Mrs Vaijayanthi, Chief Executive Officer (Nursing), and Mr Prabukumar, Chief Executive Officer (Quality & HR) made the arrangements.
