Mr Douglas M.Dorfman, aged 61 years, from New Jersey, US, who recently underwent cataract surgery in both the eyes in KG Hospital, said: “First class treatment…first class results. I can now see the world clearly. Dr Manoj Ramachandran, Chief Ophthalmologist, has brought clarity to my life. I will never forget it in my life.”
Giving a snapshot or a synopsis of his choosing KG Hospital for eye surgery, Mr Douglas accompanied by his wife said, “It is true a majority of Americans will not trust this type of surgery done outside the US.
“Coming and visiting the KGiSL campus (at Saravanampatti) in 2001 and then regularly twice a year, there is always a fascination for the Eye Hospital on the campus. I appreciate that you help the underprivileged people and prepare them for (eye) surgery.
“My eye doctor told me a year ago that darkening and shading (of the vision) are going to be a problem soon. Having done so many surgeries Dr Manoj should have the clue (for my vision problem). I had several opportunities to sit in the presence of Dr G.Bakthavathsalam and hear his views on many things.
“After the surgery (done in two phases) I am feeling greatly comfortable. The professionalism I saw in the operating room and the level of care and support I got from nurses, I can’t expect it in the US.
“In the US, the nurses are a bit removed and less personal. In KG Hospital I had a unique experience. In every movement of mine, I am always supported by four nurses. I will recommend (KG Hospital) to anyone who wants to have similar experience and care,” Mr Douglas said.
KG Hospital Chairman Dr G.Bakthavathsalam recalled that his revered father Dharmaveera K.Govindaswamy Naidu went to America to have the cataract surgery done at a cost of 15,000 US Dollars.
“This time around, an American gentleman has undergone eye surgery in both eyes in KG Hospital. For the past so many years he could not see the world clearly. He has cataract and slight bending in the cornea for which he had to undergo the surgery.
“It shows the amount of confidence, trust and love he has got for our country. He feels at home as he knows KG for the past 17 years. He knows Dr Manoj has done so many thousands of eye surgeries. He took the calculated risk of getting operated in an Indian hospital. After accurate, excellent, amazing and awful surgery done by Dr Manoj, Mr Douglas could now see the world in all its brightness and colours,” Dr Bakthavathsalam said.
Dr Manoj Ramachandran said, “You are a wonderful couple. Three cheers to both of you. It has been a great pleasure to have you in Coimbatore, especially in KG Hospital. The credit (for the successful operation) goes to the team leader Dr Bakthavathsalam and the entire medical team.”
