Vision : K.G. Eye Hospital is dedicated to combating blindness in the country, particularly the downtrodden & economically backward classes of the community, totally free of cost.
K.G. Hospital, a Multi and Super Speciality, is being run by K. GOVINDASWAMY NAIDU MEDICAL TRUST, a recognized NGO. We have treatment options for all types of ailments. An ISO 9002 certified hospital, it is in the forefront in the country in providing Advanced Medical Care at Affordable Cost.
As an NGO, we have performed over 60,000 Free Cataract Surgeries using IOL Technology to the poorer sections of society since the inception of the Eye Hospital. This has been made possible by conducting extensive camps in remote villages across all districts of Tamil Nadu and Kerala and bringing the patients in our own vehicles and sending them back with VISION restored - all free of cost.
His Excellency, the President of India, Bharat Ratna Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, launched a National Programme in our Hospital on 21.2.2003 titled "DR. KALAM-K.G. CRUSADE AGAINST CHILDHOOD BLINDNESS".
Staggering Statistics about BLINDNESS
- One out of every three blind people in the world lives in India - an estimated 13 million blind people live in India.
- Every year, 2.3 million people develop cataracts in their eyes.
- There are 2 million blind children in India. Only 5% of them receive any education.
- Every five seconds, one person in our world goes blind, and a child goes blind every minute.
- There are 45 million blind people and 135 million with low vision, comprising 180 million people with some degree of visual impairment.
- Because of the increase in life expectancy and the projected increase in world population, this number is likely to rise to more than 75 million by the year 2020 if the current trends continue.
- 90% of the world's blind people live in developing countries.
- There are nine million blind people in India, six million in China, and seven million in Africa. Together this constitutes half of the global burden of blindness.
- The treatments available for the prevention and cure of blindness are among the successful and cost-effective of all health interventions.
- 80% of the world's blindness is avoidable.
In order to enable us enlarge our activities, particularly in the area of restoration of VISION to the sightless, which has been launched by the President of India, we have embarked upon a massive programme to strengthen our infrastructure. This calls for :
- Training & recruitment of a number of Ophthalmologists, paramedical staff members, nurses & other supporting staff
- Procurement of Matador Vans for touring across the states of Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Pondicherry, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka for conducting eye camps, screening patients and bringing them to our Hospital for surgeries and treatment and sending them back after restoration of VISION
- Construction of additional facilities in our Hospital for conducting surgeries and providing beds
- Importation of medical equipments for the operation theatres
Our Strategy : We plan to conduct 25,000 FREE SURGERIES for poor children annually, which will entail an expenditure of Rs.10 crores @ Rs.4,000/- per child.
Our Request : We would request you to give us a philanthropic support as per your desire, so that we can perform FREE CATARACT SURGERY for poor patients with your benevolent help. The payment may be made in favour of K. GOVINDASWAMY NAIDU MEDICAL TRUST payable at Coimbatore. The donation would qualify for income tax rebate under Section 80G of the Income Tax Act.
