Home About Us
From a 10-bed charitable clinic in 1974 to a quaternary care centre serving over 80 lakh patients — KG Hospital has built its legacy on a single promise: advanced, affordable, compassionate healthcare for every patient, regardless of circumstance.
KG Hospital was founded in 1974 by 'Dharmaveera' K. Govindaswamy Naidu, a philanthropist and industrialist from Annur village, Coimbatore. His vision was transformative: bring world-class healthcare to people who needed it most, at a price they could afford.
What began as a 10-bed hospital has grown, over five decades, into one of South India's most respected quaternary care centres — without ever abandoning its founding charitable mission. Today, the hospital is run by the K. Govindaswamy Naidu Medical Trust.
"We were not built to be the biggest hospital. We were built to be the most trusted one."
The founding principle of KG HospitalToday KG Hospital offers cardiac surgery, neurosurgery, transplants, oncology, and 30+ other specialties — with a state-of-the-art Cath Lab, robotic surgical suite, and diagnostics that match global standards. The guiding principle remains unchanged: serve patients as family.
Under Dr Bakthavathsalam's stewardship — fondly known as Dr GB — KG Hospital has evolved organically from a 10-bed unit into a quaternary care institution without ever compromising its charitable soul. He is the architect of India's famous "Loading Dose" cardiac first-aid protocol and has personally pioneered multiple India-first medical procedures.
Five decades of leadership, anchored in clear principles. Our mission, vision and values are not aspirations — they are how KG Hospital operates, every single day.
CHIT — "consciousness" — represents one's mindset. Our four pillars of professional conduct.

KG Hospital has never treated charitable service as a side activity. From 500+ free heart surgeries for children — launched with former President Dr APJ Abdul Kalam — to being the only hospital brave enough to treat 250 bomb blast victims when every other hospital in Coimbatore had closed its doors, our social mission is inseparable from our clinical one.
Over five decades, we have served millions of people who could not otherwise access healthcare — through free camps, subsidised surgeries, disaster response, and ongoing monthly programs.
