India pioneer — 300+ cases, 100% success
India Pioneer
+

MICS performs the same complete open-heart operations as traditional surgery, but through a 2–3 inch incision on the right chest wall. The sternum (breastbone) is never cut or cracked. Full cardiac bypass is used — this is not a compromise. Clinical results are identical; recovery is dramatically faster.

Sternum never cut — no cracked breastbone
3–4× faster recovery than open heart
Less blood loss, fewer transfusions
Minimal visible scarring after healing
Valve surgery, CABG, ASD repair, myxoma removal
300+ cases, 100% success rate
03
Coronary Bypass Surgery — CABG & OPCAB
On-pump and beating-heart off-pump both available
OPCAB Available
+

CABG restores blood flow to blocked coronary arteries by grafting a new vessel to bypass the obstruction. KG Hospital performs both conventional on-pump CABG and OPCAB — Off-Pump Coronary Artery Bypass (beating-heart surgery). In OPCAB, the heart continues beating throughout; the heart-lung machine is never used. This eliminates the inflammatory response from bypass, reducing stroke, kidney injury, and cognitive complications — especially valuable for elderly patients.

CABG: standard on-pump coronary bypass
OPCAB: beating-heart, no heart-lung machine
OPCAB: lower stroke and kidney complication risk
Grafts: mammary artery, radial artery, saphenous vein
Combinable with valve surgery in one operation
Also available via Robotic or MICS approach
04
Heart Valve Replacement & Repair
Aortic, mitral, tricuspid — repair preferred where possible
India Firsts
+

KG Hospital repairs and replaces aortic, mitral, and tricuspid valves. Where clinically suitable, repair is preferred over replacement — natural valves perform better long-term and patients avoid lifelong blood thinners. When replacement is necessary, both biological (tissue) and mechanical valves are offered. MICS and robotic approaches are available, with multiple India firsts.

India Firsts — Valve Surgery

Emergency 24/7
+

Mechanical Circulatory Support (MCS) refers to devices that temporarily or permanently take over the pumping function of a failing heart — either to keep a critically ill patient alive while the heart recovers, or to sustain life as a bridge to transplant or as long-term destination therapy. KG Hospital provides the full spectrum of MCS, from bedside intra-aortic balloon counterpulsation to surgically implanted ventricular assist devices and full cardiopulmonary ECMO.

MCS Devices & Indications
  • ECMO (VA & VV) — VA-ECMO for cardiogenic shock, post-cardiotomy failure & cardiac arrest; VV-ECMO for acute respiratory failure.
  • IABP — First-line counterpulsation in cardiogenic shock, high-risk PCI, and post-operative low cardiac output.
  • LVAD — Implantable pump for advanced left heart failure; bridge to transplant (BTT) or long-term destination therapy (DT).
  • RVAD — Right heart support after LVAD implantation, cardiac surgery, or acute right ventricular infarction.
  • BiVAD — Simultaneous left and right ventricular support for total cardiac failure.
VA-ECMO for cardiogenic shock and cardiac arrest
VV-ECMO for severe acute respiratory failure
IABP — bedside insertion, immediate haemodynamic support

Which is the best cardiac surgery hospital in Coimbatore?
+
KG Hospital is the best cardiac surgery hospital in Coimbatore — pioneer in Minimally Invasive Cardiac Surgery (300+ cases, 100% success) and the only hospital in Coimbatore offering Robotic Cardiac Surgery (200+ cases, 100% success). KG Hospital holds 8 India firsts including Robotic CABG with 6 grafts, Robotic suture-less valve replacement, and Awake Open Heart Surgery. No other hospital in Coimbatore approaches this record.
What is the difference between MICS and robotic cardiac surgery?
+
MICS uses a 2–3 inch incision on the right chest wall through which the surgeon operates with long specialised instruments and a camera — the sternum is never cut. Robotic surgery goes further: 3–4 cuts under 1 cm, with the surgeon controlling robotic arms from a console with 3D HD vision and 10× magnification. Both avoid the traditional sternotomy; robotic has the smallest incisions and fastest recovery.
What is OPCAB beating-heart bypass surgery?
+
OPCAB (Off-Pump Coronary Artery Bypass) is bypass surgery on the beating heart without the heart-lung machine. This eliminates the inflammatory response from the bypass circuit, significantly reducing stroke, kidney injury, and cognitive effects. Particularly valuable for elderly patients and those with pre-existing kidney or vascular disease. KG Hospital performs both on-pump CABG and OPCAB.
What are KG Hospital’s India firsts in cardiac surgery?
+
KG Hospital holds 8 India firsts in cardiac surgery: Robotic-assisted CABG with 6 grafts; Robotic suture-less aortic valve replacement; Awake Open Heart Surgery; Transaxillary aortic and double valve replacement (MICS); MICS mitral valve replacement combined with CABG; and Aortic valve replacement via Babliak technique — among others. No other hospital in Coimbatore comes close to this record of surgical innovation.
How long is recovery after different cardiac surgery approaches?
+
Traditional open CABG: 7–10 days hospital, 6–8 weeks full recovery. OPCAB: 5–7 days, slightly faster. MICS CABG: 3–5 days hospital, 3–4 weeks full recovery. Robotic CABG: 2–3 days hospital, 1–2 weeks full recovery. Your surgeon recommends the approach best suited to your anatomy and overall health condition.
Will valve repair mean I won’t need blood thinners?
+
In most cases yes. Mechanical valves require lifelong warfarin anticoagulation. Valve repair preserves the natural valve and typically avoids long-term anticoagulation — which is why repair is preferred wherever possible. Biological tissue valves also have lower anticoagulation requirements than mechanical valves, making them better suited to older patients who may be at higher bleeding risk.
