He is the Chairman & Managing Trustee of K.G. Hospital & Post Graduate Medical Institute, Coimbatore, and Chairman of K.G. College of Health Sciences, K.G. Healthcare and KG Information Systems Ltd. He has set up a 'model' multi and super specialty hospital which effectively delivers international healthcare services at affordable cost.

Dr. G. Bakthavathsalam is the Chairman & Managing Trustee of KG Hospital & Post Graduate Medical Institute, Coimbatore. He is also Chairman of K.G. College of Health Sciences, K.G. Healthcare, and KG Information Systems Ltd. The Padma Shri is one of India's highest civilian honours. Dr. G. Bakthavathsalam was conferred the Padma Shri by the President of India, Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, in 2005, in recognition of his extraordinary contributions to healthcare, medical education, and community welfare in Tamil Nadu and India.
Dr. Bakthavathsalam has founded KG Hospital & Post Graduate Medical Institute, KG College of Health Sciences, KG College of Arts and Science, KG College of Allied Health Sciences, KGiSL Institute of Technology, KGiSL Institute of Information Management (KGiSL-IIM), and KG Information Systems & CHIL–SEZ Software Park. The KG Educational institutions provide education for 20,000 students every year and create job opportunities for more than 6,000 people in the field of Information Technology.
Under Dr. Bakthavathsalam's chairmanship, KG Hospital has provided over ₹230 crores in treatment concessions, performed 85,000 free eye surgeries, 1,600 free heart surgeries for the poor, over 3,000 free dialysis sessions, and free blood to 50 Thalassemia children every month. The hospital has conducted 10,000+ CME programmes, distributed 5 lakh copies of health awareness books free of cost, and responded to national disasters including the Coimbatore Bomb Blast, Kargil War, Gujarat Earthquake, Tsunami, and Kerala Floods.
