Home Department Infection Control
KG Hospital's Infection Control Committee enforces international standard infection control protocols as per WHO and CDC guidelines across all clinical area and OT bundles to antimicrobial stewardship — so your healing environment is as safe as our care.
KG hospitals have dedicated Infection prevention and control programs, which includes Stranded Precautions, Transmission Based Precautions, Healthcare Associated Infection prevention and Staff Health. The policy and procedure based on national guidelines (Biomedical waste management and NACO) and international guidelines (WHO and CDC). Infection Control (IC) prevents healthcare-associated infections (HCAIs) — infections contracted inside a hospital that were not present on admission. KG Hospital's dedicated Infection Control Committee (ICC), comprising a Consultant Microbiologist, Infection Control Nurse, and cross-departmental representatives, meets monthly to review data, revise policies, and drive continuous improvement.
Our Infection Control Nurses conduct prospective, denominator-based surveillance in all ICUs and high-risk wards using NHSN/NNIS definitions. Data is reported to the ICC and hospital leadership monthly, driving targeted improvement actions.
Hand hygiene in a hospital is the single most important practice for preventing the spread of dangerous infections. It protects vulnerable patients, healthcare workers, and visitors from acquiring or transmitting pathogens during care
Central Line-Associated Bloodstream Infection rate tracked per 1,000 catheter-days in all ICUs.
Catheter-Associated UTI monitoring with daily catheter-necessity review by ICN and clinical team.
Ventilator-Associated Pneumonia bundle compliance audited every shift in MICU and SICU.
Post-operative surgical site infection follow-up for 30 days (90 days for implant surgeries).
Real-time alert for MRSA, VRE, ESBL, CRE, and Candida auris. Contact precautions activated immediately.
Care bundles are specialized, evidence-based practices performed consistently to suppress specific hospital risks. KG Hospital deploys continuous device screenings and routine audits across every critical care unit.
| Bundle | Clinical Area | Key Elements | Audit Details |
|---|---|---|---|
| CLABSI Prevention | All ICUs | Hand hygiene, max barrier, CHG skin prep, optimal site, line-necessity review | Regular audits & screening |
| CAUTI Prevention | All catheterised patients | Aseptic insertion, closed system, daily necessity review, early removal | Regular audits & screening |
| VAP Prevention | Ventilated patients | HOB 30–45°, oral care 4-hrly, daily SAT/SBT, cuff pressure check | Audited every shift |
| SSI Prevention | All surgical patients | Antibiotic prophylaxis <60 min, normothermia, glycaemic control, CHG prep | Pre, intra & post-op monitoring |
All patient-facing staff receive Hepatitis B (with titre confirmation), Influenza (annual), Varicella (if non-immune), and MMR. Post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) protocol is in place for needlestick injuries — initiated within 2 hours.
KG Hospital's CSSD follows a validated one-directional workflow: Decontamination → Inspection → Packaging → Sterilisation (autoclave/EO) → Sterile Storage → Distribution. Every cycle documented with biological and chemical indicators. Every tray traced to the patient record.
KG Hospital's AMS programme is chaired by a infectious disease senior physician and clinical microbiologist,CP and ICN — ensuring the right antibiotic, at the right dose, for the right time duration.
Hospital-specific formulary reviewed annually against local antibiogram. Restricted antibiotics require AMS team approval.regular AMSP audit.
Standardised policy to collect cultures before initiating empirical antibiotics wherever clinically feasible — enabling targeted de-escalation.Cascade reporting and culture and sensitivity,Doing molecular test for early diagnosis.
Hospital-wide antibiogram published yearly, guiding empirical therapy choices for UTI, pneumonia, sepsis, and surgical prophylaxis.
The physical environment is a vector for pathogen transmission. KG Hospital's Environmental Services team follows colour-coded cleaning protocols, with terminal cleans for every vacated isolation room and a validated disinfectant rotation programme to prevent resistance.
If you or a family member has developed signs of infection during or after a hospital stay, speak to our Infection Control team immediately. Early reporting saves lives.
